In-School Field Trips
Description: Build it. Code it. Challenge it! Meet Edison — the star of our Edison Robotics Series — bringing hands-on robotic engineering to multiple grade levels through exciting, discovery-based challenges. Students scan barcodes, code their robots and test their creativity with building blocks. Choose from our 3 options — a screen-free option or incorporate your school’s technology for an extra challenge. From emerging to advanced coders, our expert Presenters adapt every session to your students’ skill level.
Format: Our experienced presenters deliver curriculum-based field trips right in your classroom.
Duration: 2 hours
Volunteers:
Grade 2-3: 1 volunteer per 4 students recommended
Grade 4-6: 1 volunteer per 6 students recommended
Teacher Provides:
For Robot Explorers, EdBlocks and EdScratch:
Laptop/computer for Presenter use, SmartBoard/projector and internet access; Please print 1 worksheet per 2 students (Link to access worksheet will be in your reminder email); Pencils (1 per 2 students)
For EdBlocks and EdScratch only:
Please ensure school technology is available for student use (1 Chromebook, laptop or tablet per 2 students).
Available Programs
There are 3 programs available for the Edison Robotics Series:
Edison Robot Explorers (Gr. 2-6)
If your students are emerging coders, this program is the perfect place to start! In this engaging, screen-free coding experience, students scan barcodes to activate their Edison robots, tackle fun challenges, and design their own robotic monsters with building blocks. This is where coding meets creativity!
Edison Software Design: EdBlocks (Gr. 2-6)
Challenge your students’ coding skills and allow their creativity to flourish by incorporating a technology component to our program! You provide the laptops/computers/tablets and we will bring the rest of the supplies and robots to your classroom. Students will learn to use drag-and-drop programming language to code our unique Edison robots. This type of programming language is easy for beginning and intermediate coders to navigate. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get coding!
Edison Software Design: EdScratch (Gr. 5-6)
Similar to the EdBlocks program we offer, the EdScratch option is an extension for more advanced coders. The EdScratch software design program uses a vertical block based coding language to make our Edison robots move and complete various actions. This program is designed for older, or more experienced, students as they will be challenged to navigate and program the robots using technology. Teachers, you provide the computers/laptops/tablets for student use during the program and we will handle the rest! Gear up for an exciting, unique and memorable coding experience!
